Swimming Pool Covers - Are they worth the investment?
When building your pool, seriously consider planning to have a cover for your pool. Automated covers are so easy to operate and save money, water, and time, and they are also an important safety measure for your pool. All pool covers have the benefits of safety and helping with energy efficiency but, being the lazy person that I am, I would prefer to have an automated cover installed when building my pool!
Benefits:
Safety - Pool covers act as a horizontal fence for your pool, preventing access by children, pets or other uninvited guests. It is also more attractive than an unsightly fence surrounding your pool and allows you the uninterrupted view of your backyard.
Energy Efficiency - You can save up to 70% on your pool's operating costs by having a pool cover. Covers serve as passive solar heaters by soaking up the valuable heat provided by the sun, and, also, preventing heat loss from your heated pool. Your cover will also reduce the amount of evaporation of water and chemicals. This will save you money on water used to maintain the optimum water level in your pool and also save you money on the amount of chemicals used to maintain your pool. The reduction in evaporation also saves on the need for dehumidification for indoor pools!
Saves Time - Your pool cover saves time in cleaning and equipment maintenance by keeping dirt and debris out of your pool while not in use. This will also reduce the maintenance cost and wear on your pool's filtration system. If you have an automated pool cover, it will greatly enhance the time saving by covering your pool in less than a minute.
In my mind, why wouldn't you install a pool cover? I believe in protecting my investments. If I was spending the time and money to install a pool on my property, then it just makes sense to include a cover in the overall cost.
